Should Your Office Treat Sick Patients?

Working in a physician’s office, one would expect to deal regularly with sick patients. However, in a dental office, it’s much less common. Should practices reschedule sick patients, if they’re non-emergency? Team Troubleshooter addresses this topic in DentistryIQ.

“The CDC recommends rescheduling patients for non-emergency appointments when they are infectious, which is normally a temperature of 100 degrees or above,” writes the team. “The practice can purchase disposable paper thermometers to verify a temperature.”

If you adopt a policy of rescheduling sick, non-emergency patients, make sure it is clearly stated. Post a sign in the reception area, and train the front desk staff on implementing this policy, as they are the first point of contact for your practice.
