Most current health care plans do not cover oral health care. While many consumers purchase additional health care plans to cover the cost of trips to the dentist, elderly people in the market for dental care may not be able to afford it.
In an article from The Baltimore Sun author Andrea McDaniels writes, “Concerns have prompted the state Department of Aging and Department of Health to explore ways to expand senior citizens’ access to dental care”.
In her article McDaniels discusses:
- Lawmakers promising to study the possibility of expanding insurance coverage for dental trips
- Why the elderly are not getting the proper care
- The importance of including dental coverage in basic health care plans
Although McDaniels article primarily focuses on Maryland, her article discusses the bigger problems that elderly people have in terms of receiving and affording proper dental care.
